GUWAHATI: A class IX student of a school in the Dibrugarh district of Assam was grievously injured after being assaulted by his seniors.

As per reports, the incident was reported from Moran town in the district.

Notably, the student was assaulted by five of his seniors inside the school premises, leaving him severely injured.

Following the incident, the school administration took disciplinary action against the five accused seniors and suspended them.

The injured student was later admitted to a hospital for medical treatment.

The reason behind the escalation is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier in a similar incident, Don Bosco HS School, Dibrugarh suspended 29 of its students after a fight between two groups of students resulted in injuries to 22 students.

Fourteen of the injured students were admitted to the Assam Medical College and Hospital for treatment. A few of them suffered injuries after being allegedly hit by a compass and other instruments.

The brawl took place between the students of Class 11 and Class 12 inside the school campus itself during recess time on August 4. The school authorities suspended 23 students from Class 12 and 6 students from Class 11. An enquiry committee has been formed by the school to investigate the incident. An FIR was lodged at the Milan Nagar police outpost which was signed by 24 guardians.

"The incident took place over some minor issue. We have immediately suspended 29 students. Stern action will be taken against the main culprits. We have set up an enquiry committee to investigate the incident," said Sameer Bhuyan, the supervisor of the higher secondary section of Don Bosco HS School, Dibrugarh.
